Leveraging Our Lawmakers

77% of Americans, including 59% of Republicans, believe in climate change.

In fact, 67% of people support President Obama's plan to regulate power plants to cut carbon emissions. But our elected officials don't quite line up. A majority of Congress consists of Climate Deniers. In fact, in 2014, Politifact claimed that there were only 8 Republicans in Congress who did not deny the existence of climate change. We've been a little more generous in our findings, but it appears that 54% of Congress, and 95% of Republican Congressmen, are Climate Deniers.

Why don't our lawmakers agree?

It's up to us to hold our Congress members accountable to their constituents. In the visualization below, explore the different aspects of our representatives. Sort by "Year up for election" to find out which senators are up for reelection in 2018 and remind them that their voters want policies that will protect our environment. Sort by "Party" to see the 3 Republican senators who are standing up to their party on this issue and send them an letter to thank them for being Climate Champions!
